This violin, made for the well known violinist Michael Dolan, is a close copy of the 'Vieuxtemps' Guarneri Del Gesù of 1741. The 'Vieuxtemps', named for the famous 19th century violinist and one-time owner Henri Vieuxtemps, is often considered to typify Joseph Guarneri's late period work. The arching in particular shows his interest at this period in the work of the Brescian masters with its full and sumptuous curves. The original violin has a great tonal reputation and I sought to replicate this as closely as possible in Michael's copy.

The violin combines a penetrating treble sound with a deeply coloured lower register.
