Exact Copy of 'Carrodus' del Gesù
Gallery Instruments

Description:
In collaboration with my client, the noted Scottish violinist Angus Ramsay, I undertook this exact copy of the 'Carrodus' violin with both tonal and aesthetic goals.
This violin is a copy of the 'Carrodus' violin made by del Gesù in 1743. Paganini expended considerable effort to find a violin equal to his 'Cannon' and the 'Carrodus', made in the same year, comes very close. It owes its name to John Carrodus, a leading violinist of the Victorian era. Since 2007 it has been played by Richard Tognetti as leader of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, made available for his use by an anonymous benefactor.
