Joseph Guarneri Filius Andrea - One Piece Back

Gallery Instruments

Description:
This violin is a copy of one by Joseph Guarnerius Filius Andrea and combines the qualities of brilliance and warmth.
The back (LOB 356mm) is a spectacular piece of quarter sawn maple with figure sloping downwards from the treble. The scroll is of plain maple grafted to a figured neck and the varnish is of light orange-brown colour and is lightly antiqued.
Giuseppe Giovanni Battista Guarneri (1666-1739 or 1740), known as Joseph Guarnerius filius Andreae, was the father of Joseph Guarnerius del Gesu. He made possibly as many violins as his father and a few more violoncellos. No violas are known.
