Joseph Guarneri Filius Andrea

Description:
This violin (LOB 355mm) is made from one of our favourite patterns and is a copy of one by Joseph Guarneri Filius Andrea. The back is in two pieces of quarter sawn maple of fine ripple while the scroll is quite plain and grafted to a flamed neck. The varnish is a strong red-brown over a golden ground with extensive antiquing. Giuseppe Giovanni Battista Guarneri (1666-1739 or 1740), known as Joseph Guarnerius filius Andreae, was the father of Joseph Guarnerius del Gesu. He made possibly as many violins as his father and a few more violoncellos. No violas are known.
